This education construction project, set within Victoria’s High Country, provides a robust and adaptable base for regional operations, supporting the Outdoor Education Group’s extensive network of programs across the country.
The design responds directly to its rugged alpine setting, embracing a form and material palette that sits comfortably within the natural landscape. A distinctive butterfly skillion roof defines the building’s silhouette, creating both architectural identity and practical performance in response to the region’s climatic conditions. External cladding of corrugated iron and natural timber reinforces a strong rural character, allowing the structure to settle into its environment with a sense of permanence and simplicity.

Internally, the building continues this language of honest, tactile materials. Extensive timber panelling lines the walls, while substantial exposed timber beams span the open-plan interior, expressing structure and strength while contributing warmth to the space. The result is an atmosphere that feels grounded and connected to its surroundings, aligning with the organisation’s outdoor ethos.

Through careful detailing and a strong understanding of context, Hedger Constructions has delivered a facility that supports the important work of The Outdoor Education Group, while remaining deeply connected to the High Country landscape it calls home.
